Hi Ferno
Quite normal, when the oil heat it gets "thinner" and the pressure then drops.
Andrew
shock, horror, ferno's in the tech section
ok,since i have been driving the old girl around ,have noticed that on start up the oil pressure is up around 50-60 psi, then after about 10-15 mins of driving it drops down to arounnd 30-40psi,my question is ,is this normal ,or is it some sign of wear/internal damage?

50psi oil pressure.... yikes !
I mean that's good but gee it's high. I know it's (oil pressure) governed by the relief spring, bearing clearance and oil viscosity but 50 pound is pretty good for a cold engine.
My GM shows 40pound at cold start up and 35pound when warm cruising along, 30pound at idle which is about all I ask.
Every engine is different but just sounds high
BUT..... I checked and.....
the 2a work shop manual states oil pressure to be
at 2000rpm 55~65lb/s.in. 8O
and the relief valve is adjustable
thanks andy ,thought that mite have been the "logical" explanation, but thought i mite just check in case it mite have been "something else" :roll:Originally posted by LandyAndy
