    Petrol/Diesel?

Is the block the same on a 2.25 petrol to diesel? I have heard the only thing different is just put a fuel injector pump on instead of a distributor and it's the same. Surely if it's the same block then the very least would be different rods and higher compression pistons?
I have heard of running diesels on gas by putting a distributor on and spark plugs. It was in an old Tojo and had done nearly a million K's and hadn't had the head off. Anybody done that with a Rover diesel?

Same block and crankshaft. Different cam, pistons, conrods, head, manifolds, lift pump, starter and flywheel.

Crankshaft is actually different (different heat treatment and finish), and the oil pump is different, as is the camshaft and flywheel.

It would be feasible to change a diesel to a petrol engine, or vice versa, but the cylinder head (and all fittings), and most of the internals would need to be changed.

But one of the reasons the petrol engine is so robust is that it shares its basic structure with the diesel.

It's very easy to convert the diesel to a petrol and have it be reliable.

Less.so.petrol to.diesel but it can be done.

Aside.from some very basic wiring and fuel lines the petrol and diesel are drop in replacements for each other.

There is a guy nearby me who was doing some work on a s3 diesel engine after getting 500,000kms(not to bad). I had a diesel and found it quite economical and similar on power to the petrol.
