Hey Dan,
You're not interested in fitting another Land Rover steering wheel?
John
Ok, question time, because my steering wheel is a bit damaged and I have been offered one by a friend that is the same colour as the car, it is however a racing steering wheel and therefore not standard figment for a series 2a Landrover.
My question is, does anyone know of a part number for a steering boss kit that would fit? I am sure at some point I had seen a picture of an old Landy with a racing wheel so there has to be one out there, but the people in my local car part shops give me blank looks, or ask if I mean land cruiser and I figured this a much better place to ask.

I am mostly weighing up options at the moment, I have seen a couple Landy steering wheels for the 2a for sale but they are all in the same sort of condition as mine, guess it's an age thing, and the offer of a freebie wheel seemed too good to pass up, so I thought i would see how much it would cost to get it to fit and then go for the cheaper option, being on a tighter budget now as apparently saving up to buy a house is more important than fixing the car
Hello from Brisbane.
I am eventually going to replace the steering wheel in my truck (1975 S3) as part of a general refurbishment - it isn't too bad, a few small cracks on the spokes that can be easily filled or just as easily lived with.
It has been removed from the vehicle and is sitting on a shelf in my workshop. If it helps you out and an AULRO courier lift can be arranged it is yours.
I guess if you don't want it and someone else does, then they should feel free to PM me.
Cheers,
Neil
Thanks for the kind offer but you are a little far from me! Also I had a genius idea yesterday for restoring the one I currently have using a super hard resin substance a friend came up with to make replica armour suits with... Watch this space, I shall post the results should all go well, though it might not look all that original I have decided to have fun with the interior area, especially as I drive the kids around a lot.
Hello again from Zimbabwe until after Easter.
There will be plenty of experience on the site for restoring steering wheels. But for what it is worth the workshop section of a recent issue of Classic Land Rover (probably hitting the stands in Australia about now) has a feature on restoring a really crappy S1 wheel. I can send you a pdf copy when I get back to Brisbane if you like.
Otherwise, the original offer still stands.
Cheers,
Neil
You need to recognise that the earlier metal spoked wheel is not interchangeable with the 1967-on three spoke wheel, which continued on to the end of Series 3 production. The late Series 3 ones, although appearing identical, are made of different material, which seems to be a lot more durable.
