early series 2a distributor options?
the distributor (lucas 25d) on my 1963 series 2a 88 is clapped out and i am looking to replace it as soon as possible so i can drive her again.
i have seen plenty of the electronic replacement units on ebay, just wondering if anyone can give me some feed back on replacements that they have used.
can a 25d4 be fitted? or 45d as i have seen them available within australia and i want to have mine going for the weekend, or is it worth waiting for an electronic dizzy from overseas? i got 4 years of daily driving out of mine before it decided to give up (no idea when it was last over hauled or replaced, however i do know that the engine, gearbox and diffs are all original and matching) also my motor is the low compression version if that has an effect on my choice of distributors,

Hi. On my 4cyl 69 IIA, I replaced my 25D distributor with a 45D4. Straight swap. Replacement points and condenser are not as readily available (and more pricey, I've found). I've now replaced them with a drop-in electronic ignition kit, which works fine. It has not produced any miraculous change, but it is low maintenance. And you can easily put the points and condenser back in if the new technology gives trouble.
Is the '4' suffix just an indicator for the number of cylinders?
Always remember to drizzle some oil through the plates to lubricate the weight pivots, at each engine oil change.

I have decided to try an electronic 45d off of eBay, once that's all working it's new door tops and roof back on and it's back to daily driving again ready for winter
