Yes it gets confusing, because by the end of SIII a British Land Rover colour Limestone was similar to the Aussie SIIA colour sandstone.

Remember the paint on the aussie Land Rovers were sourced from Dulux and were not the same selection as the paints on Land Rovers made in the UK. It was another part of the way that Rover Co complied with the Australian content rules.

This is where lots of Aussie researchers come undone when they search for sources in the UK.

Yes, we had a 1972 S2a 6 cylinder on the farm that was that colour whereas the neighbour's 4 cylinder was the traditional LWB grey. I am probably mistaken but I had always thought the body, roof top and wheel rims were the same colour on our truck.

The same colour scheme seems to have been used in Africa around that same time - especially on some station wagons and non-military forward controls. Like this one in Maun (Botswana):

Too right, if you look at the two images posted by Slunny you see that one has the same body and roof colour while the second has the lighter roof.

The hardtop versions all had the light roof and sides.

I really liked that colour scheme, in fact the 6cyl Suffix H was my all time favourate, IMHO the best of the series bar none.

Yes, I recall that now - ours (photo below) was a ute cab tray top like the first photo of the earlier post.



I believe they were the one overall colour whereas the full length tops were lighter than the body panels.

I'm about to get mine done, so looking at options at the moment. Want something just a shade lighter and creamier than limestone.

They're the same ute in the pics. I think its just the difference in light when the photo was taken. The door colour looks different too. I've just had a look in the garage, and it looks like the roof colour and the body colour are the same on mine.

Hello again.

This is timely because I have just removed the 5 worn out tyres from my truck as a prelude to getting the rims cleaned up and recoloured next week.

They are presently a very rich cream colour which actually looks quite good - but the actual quality of the original painting was poor - but will probably look better in a less buttery colour.
