    SIIa Steering Damper

Moving house finished with (except for unpacking which usually takes 5 years plus). So starting to source bits to get "un-named" RWC.

Any experience with brands of steering damper for SWB. These were, I learned, optional equipment in the day (thanks John for that information) but mine is u/s and since I do intend going into potentially difficult terrain a working one might save a whack on the wrist or thumb. [Yes I have had one in the past and it hurt like blazes.]

Had a look at roverparts in the 'rat. They don't actually list one for the Ser II. UK sites do but seems a lot of money to spend with postage for something which is essentially a shocka. A crowd in Dandenong named Drivetech 4x4 make one said to fit the Ser IIa. Anyone any experience of these? Is the geometry different on the Ser III steering such that a damper from that model won't fit? Roverparts has an Armstrong for $50.00 but it says it's for Ser III. Fleabay is advertising an oz army original L/R damper for $95 plus postage.

    thanks

    Hi Damian

You are best to stay with the design for the late SIIa or SIII. It requires you to replace the original drag link with a two piece one with the bracket for the RH end of the damper. It is easier to get the whole drag-link from a wrecker than to buy the two parts seperately.

Using the original design makes parts supply easier and keeps the geometry correct. (Clamp on dampers can come loose and slide along the drag-link)

You will also have to find the LH chassis bracket which hangs under the LHS dumb-iron. It was originally bolted on but subsequently some were welded.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
