    prop shaft length

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the difference in length (or otherwise) of the prop shaft from having a rover rear diff to a Salisbury diff. My project (IIA 109)came with a Salisbury diff but no shaft and the rover Shaft I have is a little long. Also, are the U bolts the same for both?
    Cheers in advance.

Thanks for your reply, I'm just concerened how much to shorten the rover shaft to have the correct amount of movement left in the sliding splines. I presume when fitting the shaft it should be fully compressed.
    cheers

The difference is about 2" but there are also differences in prop shaft length between 4cyl chassis and 6 cyl chassis.

Even if you can force the Rover prop shaft into place you will damage something like engine and gearbox mounts as the axle moves through its articulation.

Shortening and re-balancing a shaft has costs, easier to get a correct length good condition second hand shaft for your purpose. Plenty of them around.

ADDIT: as long as you look for a shaft from the same chassis type (4cyl 109 or 6cyl 109) you can use a shaft from either late Suffix H SIIa with Salisbury or SIII (all SIII 109 had Salisbury).
