    109 Ute tow bar

    Hi all,

One thing noted during the successful rego inspection today was the tow bar was no good and needs to be removed.

It has the original ex-army 'ring, pin through' type that has had the tower tongue and ball welded onto it. Strong as hell, but not kosher.

The man said a tow bar needs to have a complicance plate on it etc. No problems, but what do i stick on it?

    Any ideas team?

    Thanks

    Dave

Is that the same for all Series Rovers? I'll have to get one for my SIII 109 if that's the case.

I'll be watching this post with both eyes open.

Sounds like someone who doesn't know how to inspect a vintage car... Compliance plates must have had a commencement date?

    Cheers,

No it doesn't, your man needs to understand ADR's and how each of them apply to vehicles of different years. I don't know the exact year but tow bars with compliance plates only became mandatory in the 80's some time. I'm assuming as you've posted this in the 2/2a section that yours is a tad earlier than that.

A vehicle only needs to meet the ADR's that applied the year it was built.

If it has passed now, then just use it. If it needed something done to keep him happy, remove it until it's registered, then just bolt it back on, or report him to the rego authority in your state if you don't like him...

    Thanks Guys,

that makes it a bit clearer now. I'll just take off the ex army modified thing and bolt on one of the goose neck types you can get from Roverparts for about $40.

Its only towing a box trailer so it does't need to be too over-engineered.

Report my 'guy', no way! He's a good bloke and 'understands' old cars and things they do, like leak oil etc, unlike other inspectors I've met in the past who were complete tools.

She's all rego'd up now and terrorising the streets of the NewEngland. Look out.

    Dave
