wouldn't it make you spit if you'd been hammering away at it for a couple of days and then you remembered what that odd looking tool was for at the back of the shed.
cheers,

This might be of help to anyone contemplating replacing/rebuilding a steering relay.

If only they all came out that easily......
I'm not keen on pushing it out using the shaft, all the load is going through the 4 bolts that hold the top plate in position.
The last one I jacked up the vehicle on the shaft then levered it out using the lugs for the through bolts at the top.
Looks like the problem is dirt & water gets down from the top. I did consider an O-ring or something similar to stop water & dirt getting down & getting trapped. Then I realised that the one I'd just removed had probably been in situ for 50 years and just re-fitted it after it was overhauled.

Colin, I recently removed one from a 2A and the previous owner must have been aware that they become "bonded" in the chassis, so he had greased the bottom and wrapped that waxed hemp product that is often used on irrigation fittings around the top of the relay. I am not sure what the product is called, but it done the job and kept the dust and moisture out. Cheers, Mick

I had a bastard of a time removing mine, when I replaced it, I sealed it top and bottom with copious amounts of silicon. See how it works in 50 years time
