    LED Tail lights & Indicators

    LED Lights at Paddocks

    Hi All,

Matilda needs all new lights & I was considering going LED.

    Has anyone used them?

Were there any issues with the connectors?

Is 73mm the right size for a brake/tail light?

Anywhere in Australia to get them?

    Thanks

These lights are designed for Defenders - late 200tdi on. As such, they are secured by the two screws visible on the outside of the light, rather than 3 screws holding the base on like what is probably on your Series. That means you'd have to drill new holes in your bodywork, but if you are ok with that they'll work (and yes, they're the right diameter).

The LED lights are available on eBay, or through most Land Rover parts people.

You'll need to sort out the connectors for yourself, if it was me I'd use a Deutsch plug. One thing I'd say is that they look quite modern, even on a lot of Defenders they look a bit out of place.

    Thanks for the info mate,

Considering a set of the original type are about 1/4 of the price and look the goods I might stick with them.

The LED type, as mentioned above, are designed for Defenders. However the front side lamps and amber turn indicator lamps have a very similar external design to the Lucas lamps fitted to Series IIa from about 1967 onwards (including SIII) and the Defender stop tail are similar to the stop tail on the SIII.

The Defender stop/tail lamps are noticeably smaller than the Lucas, Sparto and Wipac stop/tail lamps used on SII and SIIA.

It all depends upon what you are doing with your Series Landy, if it's to retain the originality it's probably the wrong way to go, if the vehicle is a daily or regular driver, LED are possibly appropriate.

Remember if you change to LED indicator lamps, you also need to change the flasher can to a LED compatible electronic unit.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
