    neg or pos

Hi Guys Just joined the series fraternity by buying a SWB series 2 . My question is it didn't come with a battery in it so how do I tell if it has been changed to neg. earth or is it still pos. earthed . Before I start making it leak smoke from the wiring. Also its a ex military command vehicle in fairly good condition really so I'm interested in keeping it as original as possible

trace the wiring to the coil, the side that goes to the points will usually give you the polarity of the vehicle. IF thats not enough check the wiring orientation on the banana plug style jacks for the trouble light. If thats not enough you have to check out the wiring to the regulators and the trailer plug.

If the conversion to -ve earth is done then the battery leads should be swapped over, the positive terminal is usually larger and the negative smaller.

Thanks for posting this - I am about to give the series 2 a tickle sometime in the next few days and I've had my head in the series 3's for so long I hadn't given a thought to the neg/pos thing!
    cheers,

    an even more obvious check...

look for an alternator instead of a generator.

if its got an alternator then its 99% to be neg earth.
