I think you just have to keep looking - although I wouldn't call them rare, registered old land rovers that come up for sale are a lot less common than they used to be (as is any 40 plus year old vehcle), and if someone has one that is registered therefor probably in drivable condition, they will be asking decent money for them now.

A full resto, not running but complete vehicle could be anywhere from $500 to $1,500, running but needing work could be around $1,000 to $2,500 and a running, driveable registered unit would be anywhere from $3,000 to $8,000 or more depending on condition.

What sort of dollars are you looking at spending?

A lot of Series 2 have been converted to holden motors so that will cut out the number available.
I have a 67 2A truck cab but it has a 186 holden motor in it. It was originally a landrover 6 but I have not got to the point of trying to register it. I don't expect any real issues though as it was originally a six cylinder.
I did consider trying to convert it back to a rover 6 but they are getting scarce as well. Parts are hard to find as well for the rover 6.
They are around. Keep asking people to let you know if you see any.

I know of a 1963 IIA styleside, all original running gear, and it does run, but it's not registered. There is another donor for spares and the original engine (swapped for the donor one). I believe he's asking around $5,000 for both.
My daughter works for him part-time, so I should be able to get some photos if required.
I was thinking of buying it myself, but for some strange reason, SWMBO doesn't want any more Landrovers cluttering up the yard! We've only got four!

Yep, I'm doing that now - some parts are very hard to find and cost a fortune when you come accross them. Including a lot of new parts (Pistons, bearings, custom camshaft, water pump, redo head, machining (including hardened exhaust valves which go in the block remember) and new exhaust manifold (I went for a set of Cookeys extractors), I'll be out around $5K and that's with me swinging the spanners. They are an enthusiasts engine now for sure, but I'll end up with a better than new engine. They aren't for everyone that's for sure, but worth doing if that's your thing (luckily it is mine)

When I found mine I was looking for a short wheel base diesel ... ended up with a long wheel base petrol (ute). It wasn't in the best shape and needed some work to get it roadworthy (the first time) but was cheap enough that it was worth the punt. I then went on to restore it later. I could never imagine i would go that far when I bought it!

I guess the point is, they are out there so keep an eye out from time to time, eventually one will come up when you least expect

Hi again everyone, and thanks for your input/opinions/advice etc.
I think I'll widen my criteria a bit, after all I do like all the series landies.
Even one with an engine swap done should be ok, although i'd have to find a registered one to avoid hassles with engineers cert's etc - I need another project like i need a hole in the head
Mrs HH, thanks for letting me know about the 109 wagon - a bit out of my price range though i'm afraid.
I'll just keep waiting and searching for a bargain basement one for the time being I think. Apart from being a tight-arse by nature, I don't want to spend very much on one as I know that once the Holdens are done I'll want to do a full resto on the Landy too, regardless of the condition I buy one in.

The search goes on, lol
