Like the ones the floor screw into? There seems to be quite a large lip the clip would have to make it over to reach the hole. I'll have to have a closer look when I am home.

Yep - JDNSW is correct. It's a long screw that screws into something like a captive nut (same as the floor). At least that is how it looks on my 2, Series II's...
It is not exactly the same as the floor, but exactly the same ones are used on the seat box panel above the fuel tank, for example.
Are these the correct clips required ? it’s what I have used before on my series 2

Dgd69 has the clip you need, they are the same as the type that hold the vent regulators in place on the dash and the firewall cheers dennis
Yes. You push them in from the outside and the legs spring together then back out, but once the screw is in they cannot come together again.
Ah I see. Thanks for that guys. Do they sell those sorts at hardware stores or am I going to have to place a special order.
Probably have to get from a LR supplier.
Nut - Paddock Spares

I ended up just bolting them it on with normal nuts and bolts. Will fit spring nuts in the future if it turns out the grill needs removing more often than I am expecting. Also got the fuel gauge and temp gauge working. The temp gauge rides a bit high, just under the red but I dont know if that's normal or because the car is moving for the airflow and has no shroud to direct the air well.
The next issue I am having is with wiper motors. The car came with none. The genuine ones seem to be worth a fortune. Is there a good/affordable option around. I have seen the black ones for sale but I have read they have fitting issues? Plus it looks like you would have to drill new or larger holes. Installing the cable driven style seems like the way I might go but again I dont know where the single motor of that is mounted or if it even fits in an early S2.
Attached is a photo of me while doing a few laps around the yard. Just need a interior mirror, mudflaps and to sort out the wiper and I think its ready for a road worthy!
