						Hi All,
I'm a long time lurker on here but haven't posted in a fair while. Since I recently picked up a nice wagon with (I think) a bit of history, I thought I might share it with you all.
So I bought the old girl from a lovely old fellow in Broome who has owned it since 1970 and he tells me that the 56000 odd miles on it are original.
He tells the story of the landie as being used as the Queen's security detail in 1963 on her royal tour visit to Broome and surrounds, It has the Faulls - Subiaco (Perth) dealer plate riveted to the radiator shroud so I would love to chase down their sales records if that's even possible? I'm hoping someone might have these hidden away somewhere! I'll track down the chassis number tomorrow when it's light.
I'm told that once the crown was finished with the vehicles (it was one of a pair of wagons apparently), they were given to the local pastor and then this one was sold on to a 3rd party before arriving in the hands of Maurice (the fella I bought it off).
Anyhow, my plans for the landie are not major. I've taken out the vinyl interior just temporarily to try and remove the mountains of red dust that have accumulated inside and out and I also planning on doing some sort of chassis rust protection to keep it in nice shape. Any suggestions on the chassis protection front (simple DIY methods if possible?) would be greatly appreciated! Apart from that, it's in quite nice and original shape so I plan on keeping her that way.
Have some photos!
Cheers,
James

That is astounding! Bit of a clean up, some polish and some upholstery work. And you should have a really special vehicle. May find the odd bit of mechanical work needed after you drive it a bit, but overall, very good.

						Thanks guys!
I have been searching for a long time for a nice Safari so I could't say no when it popped up. Even if it was 5000 km away.
Does anyone know where I might go for information about the Faulls Dealership in Subiaco?
And just for interest's sake, the engine and chassis nos are as follows:
eng: 251312095
Chass: 26300248A
I forgot to take note of the pressed metal corp. numbers but will do this afternoon.
Also, is it wise for me to be posting chassis and engine numbers on the internet?
Cheers,
James
Nice find and looks unmolested....
You can get the correct 'elephant hide' seat covers from Exmoor in the UK, expensive but look the part. I have a set to fit to my IIa Dormobile.
They list complete seats but if you contact them they will sell just covers, I can send you the Export Manager's details if you need it.
It would be nice to find a picture of it being used by security for the Queen if the story is correct.
Found this https://www.google.com.au/url'sa=t&r...AqThZaFAaQlJuQ
It mentions a couple of Land Rovers being brought out from the UK. Also mentions a DVD with details of the LR's brought out from the UK so might be worth making contact, your's may show up in the background somewhere......
Your chassis number comes up a CKD between '61 & '63.

Have a read of this......
1963 Series IIA 109in 2.25-litre petrol — LRO
Odd that it 'came out from England' but is listed as CKD and has the Faulls dealer plate. Best of luck finding more of it's history.

If the vehicle the topic of this thread has a Pressed Metal Corp plate on it it would not be one of the two brought out from the UK at least not in one piece.

						Thanks everyone for the input!
I'll do some digging and see if I can get a hold of some more of the details on the crown's side of the story, possibly details of the vehicle order? And will chase up that DVD that Gromit mentioned.
I'll be sure to keep you all posted!
Cheers,
James
