Friend of mine found that the a Ryobi Whipper Snipper line feed cover fitted exactly. [biggrin] But not as much fun in making it. [smilebigeye]

Yup I did it myself, it's pretty straightforward.. however I managed mess up one rebuild kit (pressed bearings/seal to much, and wrote them off)..
Ideally you'll need access to a press, SCA actually has reasonable small ones, when they're on sale anyhow..
If you've got the standard series manual, there's a section showing you how to rebuild it and take it apart etc, if not let me know, and I can upload a photo..
The rebuild kits are about $40-45 locally, or £8 from the UK (craddocks or paddocks).. You can also get them refurbished locally, but it's really expensive, one place was doing a swap/refurb for $3-400 I recall..
Great progress so far, looks like a tidy rig you have there,
what are your plans for it?
Tim
Thanks, planning on keeping it somewhat original, but rough plans:
Aside from the obvious things of: sort brakes, clutch, etc etc:
- New springs, bushes, shocks etc
- Perhaps a new steering damper, though I'm not sold either way (I quite like the access to the crank)
- Bit more of an electrical tidy up, loom up the headlights, get all the warning lights working.. debating not worrying about the missing choke/temp otter switch, as they seem to be NOS only and quite expensive..
- Pondering seatbelt options, I believe it's out of scope for requiring seatbelts.. though assuming I add them, I'll need an exmoor seatbelt bar or similar if I want the roof off..
- Regarding roof, I really like the bikini/half canvases (also from exmoor), so may go down that path..
- Probably won't rush to paint it, but when I do, will keep the original darker more neutral green (I accidentally bought the wrong green for the radiator etc)
- Will probably just keep it a rolling resto, as the chassis is in a pretty good state, biggest problem is the gearbox xmember is wrecked, but it seems a replacement can be had for around $100 (from the UK, ex shipping).. so that will need chopping and welding
- And all the normal resto stuff, it's missing seats, will probably go with exmoor delux seats, unless I can find some decent 2nd hand ones locally..
Longer term, just planning on having it as a weekend driver, I've got a 109 as a daily (though I don't actually drive much).. but plan on keeping this, mostly with the roof off for some local drives and events etc..
I was looking at Exmoor Bikini tops just yesterday; I must admit they look pretty cool for a Sunday driver, although I will probably stick with the truck cab that I have.
Thats what I love about these trucks - this week it's a hardtop; next week it's an open top; the week after it's a ute. [biggrin] Provided you've got all that stuff tucked away in the shed...
Does the seat belt bar double as a roll bar (legally) do you think?
I wouldn't think so,, it'd need to be somewhat higher to be a roll bar. Looks like it sits just above the seat back height by only a few inches.
Was on the seat belt subject not long ago with JDNSW - the design I found online that didnt need the bar but provided the 3way was:

Not sure if this kit is available here, or if it would pass inspection, but I like the fact that you can take the top off (as I want to do) but still have a belt across the shoulder.
If you look at the picture there is an attachment in mid air with nothing to bolt to..... The belt guide above the inertia reel is shown mounted to the top of the bulkhead
The attachment in mid air should be fixed above shoulder height so a bar will probably be needed.
The other alternative is lap belts if they are applicable for the year.

I agree. Looks like the part circled will need to attach to something.
The retractable belts only will work correctly if the angles of the belts are within the belts specification. Otherwise they won't retract correctly and possibly not work correctly in an emergency situation.

Good point - so effectively it seems that if you want a 3 point belt set up for a hardtop that can also convert to topless then you dont have many choices as the frame you can buy doesnt fit with a hardtop.
Only options at this point then is just lap belts if you want to go topless?
