    Talking 88" SIIa project

So I recently bought this (was posted around here a while back):

    1962 SIIa:

    Arrival + S3 109

Mostly straight, no real rust aside from in door tops, seat box and a load of surface roof on the roof.

    The interesting brisbane based roof.

    Pretty tidy really

Anyhow, not really jumped into it yet, but here it is for the moment..

Looks pretty good, all things considered. If it is possible to salvage the Athol Hedges hardtop, I suggest keeping it is a good idea, as almost none have survived in restorable shape.

They were fitted by the Qld distributor instead of the Rover one, but rust quickly and badly. If you can manage to restore it, your 2a would be almost one of a kind.

    Looks good.

Yes, I've never seen one of those hardtops on a restored vehicle, would be great if it can be kept.

Ok.. finally got around to doing some work:

    - Coil replaced
    - new leads
    - Partly rebuilt fuel pump, awaiting refurb kit
    - Light refurb of oil bath filter

Couple of geckos managed to get inside the filter :/

After a clean, and a paint

Pretty rough inside the fuel pump, bowl was filled with sediment of course..

After a bit of a clean, awaiting kit

A small project for this evening.. being put off by spending anything up to $130 for a missing horn center (eg: 512352 - Horn Push and Centre Cover up to Suffix B 1964)

I've decided to give 3d printing a go.. after an hour or so, my first 3d model part, looks something like this, not too bad, with a 30mm center hole for a flat black push button.. won't really look original, but good enough.

Total cost $20 for 3d printed aluminium/plastic hybrid.. not bad!

Hopefully it comes out ok, and I got the dimensions correct, will post more photos when it arrives

Whilst I'm waiting for parts, decided to do a couple of cosmetic things..

firstly, fixing up steering wheel, filling in a couple of cracks:

Finished, with 3d printed center... just waiting for a flat black push button for the center..

    In place..

Decided I may as well clean up the horn at the same time:

    Cleaned and painted:

Also whilst I wait for new hoses, thought I'd take out the radiator for some work.. doesn't look too bad..:

more next week when parts arrive hopefully..

Thanks for this, but it seems good so far..

    Ok quite a few updates:

Refurbed the radiator, however, painted green here rather than the normal black on the cowl..

Removed the roof for easier access:

Looks a bit low as springs are wrecked:

Did a small amount of electrical work, everything seems good:

Water pump removal, a pretty rare 8 stud pump (most are 9 or 7)..

    Cleaned up:

    8 stud mounting:

    New fuel pump, works well.

New carb, went from solex to a britpart zenith replica.. which required a 90deg mounting bracket, which I happened to have..
Only downside is the throttle linkage is inversed, so required a bit of modifation of the throttle linkage so it worked in the other direction

Not a great photo, but flipped the linkage arm so it works on the bottom side, and rotated the rod attached to the carb to attach from the other side, no problems so far.. along with a new hole for the spring to pull it from the other side.

Water pump looks great now 88" SIIa project Did you rebuild yourself? Is it hard to do?

I also has 8 holes water pump that needs to be rebuilt. Can you tell me how to do it?

    Thanks. Gus
