hehehe,,
So, realistically, we only have a few weeks until we take off for a week at Corowa and then onto Cooma. Between work, being crook and the heat (when you least need it), I’ve been able to do nothing in recent months, so of course now, everything HAS to be done, regardless of all of the afore mentioned problems.
So first off is to remove the heavy duty bumper,, more like a bull bar really, quite weighty so glad to see it go. Have to find a decent second hand one now.
Found a little rust on the end of the dumb iron, so I may end up fixing that after the two events at Easter, we’ll see what time I have prior to going.
Adjusted the tappers, they were somewhat noisy, so now they are substantially more quiet,
although not perfect, so I may look at them again yet. Would like to remit the carby, but now sure if it’s really required. It was supposedly done about two years ago, so, I’m hoping that either someone will spot something that shows it’s either been done or not and advise appropriately.
One of the other main jobs to be done is the fitment of a Fairey Overdrive I’ve sourced. Would have liked to have fully rebuilt this unit first, but guessing I won’t have time. So it’ll go in as is, and hopefully be ok. Cleaning the area first is essential,, out with the turps and a brush.
Downloaded the fitment instructions to make life easy, and will see if I can clean up the unit itself as well.
A couple of other jobs that have to be done are,,
Ive purchased some parabolic springs which need to be fitted. These are brand new from about ten years ago apparently, but never fitted. (Now where have I seen this scenario before).
Mths other thing I scored with the springs is a really good looking lockable toolbox for the back
One more rather important job to do is get the brakes fixed. I need to buy 4 new drum and shoe sets and get them matched, and then of course, fix the leak I seem to have acquired
I did think about just redoing my own drums, which is still a possibility, but then I thought that not knowing how old they are, and thinking that I’ll have this car for a long time, maybe just bite the bullet now. We’ll see.
Keep up the good work Marcus.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Well, part of the box is cleaned. Have tomorrow off, so will get more done which is good.
Have lost power here this evening, so if all’s good tomorrow, I may sneak the Fairey inside to clean it whilst in aircon comfort
If I end up stripping the carb, it’ll be inside too
Marcus,
The damp patch on the floor is telling you it's time to re-seal the master cylinder. Easiest to remove the pedal box but you can remove the master cylinder in situ.
Is it the aluminium one or the earlier cast iron one with the big nut on the back ? I have a 7/8" Whitworth spanner if it's the cast iron one.
I can get brake shoes locally ( not Britpart/Bearmach) but most drums are aftermarket. BGT in Dandenong could skim your existing drums if there is enough material left.
Best of luck with the overdrive, I get the impression they are noisy when they are in good condition........

Looking good Marcus.
The same parabolics as I have. You might find the over-riders on them will "clack" a bit when you are running around with little or no weight in your bus, but loaded up they come into their own.
Keen to see how that overdrive goes on the old girl.
Cheers, Mick.

It seems deciding NOT to take it inside was a good move. Even my rather “sexy” legs have copped the splashesI can only imagine what wifey would say if I’d done this inside. Alas, it will just take longer taking respite stops in the aircon along the way

So, I may have a very small issue. As I understand it, this is a Fairey Overdrive unit,, however, it has some kind of cover, on the top cover which I’ve not seen on any Fairey OD I’ve seen.
Also the engagement handle seems very different to what I have pictured in the Fairey instructions.
Just wondering if if anyone can shed any light on this at all. I can make it all fit up and work as is, but would like the right info to go with also.
Hoping someone can tell through the couple of pics I have.
