Thread: 1971 Series 2a paint job Sydney

I looked into getting a professional to respray my 109 Series IIA a few years back and the costs were pretty huge - I think around $6k was the lowest I was quoted and that was with me doing the paint stripping. I ended up hiring a compressor and painting myself using an acrylic paint. I have used Taylor and Botham in Brookvale for some recent panel repairs after a large tree branch fell on the front wing, they do complete vehicles and I would definitely recommend them.

Hi Jack, yeah I have been following you on Instagram for a while now I'm a northern beaches boy myself, how does the acrylic paint hold up over time? I chatted to the guys at autolac in brookvale and they seemed to think it wouldn't last much more than 2 years or so, I was intending to paint it myself but finding the time and place to do it is holding me up a bit

The paint seems to have held up pretty well, it was painted around four years ago. I used acrylic as it was safer from a human health perspective (I believe you can buy 2-pack paint which is harder wearing but it must be applied with breathing apparatus etc.).

I painted mine in a carport and it was far from ideal! I would love to repaint mine when I have a proper garage and time in the future.

Worth mentioning that the original paint on my 110 is acrylic - and is still in reasonably good condition after 31 years.
