    Panel Prep for painting

    Hi guys,
I'm planning on painting my Land Rover Series 2a with 2 pak soon and was wondering with panel prep. The panels paint is in pretty good condition the main reason for painting is that im changing the colour. Ive given everything a pretty good sand but not sure if I have to remove all of the old paint or not, regardless of the condition its in? Also if i dont remove all the paint but on some panels i go back to bare metal in places but not in other what sort of primers i could use that wont damage the old paint but will provide good adhesion to the bare metal. Any opinions or advice welcome. Cheers

In theory use an acid etch primer on bare ally, although the existing paint doesn't like it and may react, turning soft and possibly bubbling.
Acid etch should only be used lightly.
Removing all the old paint will be a big task .
Depending on the final results your after you could give a light acid etch on the bare ally, if it reacts with existing paint wipe with some thinners to clear it.
Then a 2 PAC primer, then sand and then top coat.
Check with an automotive paint shop on the suitability of the old and new, and do a test spot.
All that theory aside the previous owner of my county painted it auscam tan enamel in the backyard with a wipe down of turps and it stuck to ally, gal,old paint and steel really well
