Will taking the doors off a SWB have structural ramifications ?

    Hi,
I'm about to buy a SWB 2A to use as a farm ute (instead of a quad). I'm not going to flog the guts out of it, but I am curious if you take the doors off would there be structural integrity issues. The intent is to take the doors and roof off for summer periods, then place the roof back for winter. Apologies if this has been asked before.
    Cheers
    Kim

I wouldn't think so. All the strength in a Land Rover is in that big steel chassis, I doubt taking the doors off would make any difference at all.

    Unlikely

    Hello from Brisbane.

As others have suggested it is unlikely that the two flimsy hinges and primitive locks would be adding much structural rigidity to the truck beyond that offered by the box chassis - itself one of the strongest configurations on offer.

Our farm trucks occasionally went doorless, especially the earlier Series 1’s, but if kids, your favourite hound, thermos etc are occasional passengers my inclination would be to stick with half doors. Hit the wrong bump and they are about the only thing standing between you and Mother Earth.

    Cheers,

    Neil

I agree, Keep to the half door configuration as the dust/mud getting into the cab will give you the "Willies" without them and all the empty stubbies/cans will fall out in the paddock instead of staying on the passenger side floor where they should be
The top of the half door also makes a good shooting rest.
Seriously though door or no door it makes NO difference to the structural integrity of the cab.

As the others indicate, the doors on Series Landrovers contribute nothing to the structural strength of the vehicle.
