    Strange Phenomenon

Driving back from Cooma 70th my 2a with a stromberg carby (not sure if carby has anything to do with it but it's not stock) oddly lost power going up hills, oil pressure was fine, temp was fine, vacuum gauge kinda went to 0.
car surged and lost power, change down a gear to decrease load did nothing to help backfiring and surging engine would just power down and die.
liftid bonnet and coil wasn't hot and all leads were good and plugged in.
Motor started and pulled away fine until it had to load a little, engine died again so I removed the air cleaner thinking it needed more air .....no differences in behaviour ....limped into Bombala and thought maybe it was bad fuel from where I filled up in Cooma, so switched tanks problem disappeared.
On the down hill run to Cann River switched tank back to Cooma fuel to try and burn some of it off and low and behold car powered up hills that it struggled with pre Bombala?..
    Could it be altitude related?...
On the way up I drove 30 degree heat with no issues
Very strange hope someone can shed some light on this

    Cheers Paul

Maybe fuel tank breather blocked causing a vacuum. Switch tanks and that supplies fuel OK. Switch back and vacuum has leaked down so runs OK on the original tank ?

Was it you I passed not far out of Cooma early this morning ? Red Territory towing a Series I.
