    series diesel engine identity

    Hello All

Just after some info on the attached pic. would it be a 2.25 or 2.0 diesel. the injectors and oil filler cap look different to other 2.25 pictures I have seen. or is it just a early 2.25. any info appreciated.

    Cheers Gaz

I think it is a 2.25, although the injectors look like the ones on the 2.0, but the 2.0 had a fuel filter mounted on the engine, and the thermostat housing is different on the 2.0. But note that the visible external differences between the two engines are nearly all bolt-on bits that could all be fitted to the other engine.

But several other bits show that the vehicle it is in is definitely a 2a, and it would be highly unusual for a 2.0 engine to be retrofitted to a 2a - the "a" is defined as when the diesel engine increased in capacity.

It is quite possible that they were fitted during the vehicle life, and may have been "what was available". As far as I know, they are functionally interchangeable.
