I am not sure, but the parts book only specifies them for "early models", so I suspect they were found to be not essential. I have trouble seeing what issues would arise from the rocker gear being slightly mispositioned.
I am busy installing the head back on the 2.25 petrol motor and have just realised that there weren’t any valve pedestal locating collars.
I was just wondering how vital they are. The motor was running before I stripped it so I’m really not sure.
Any comments?

Likewise - but I would be really stupid if I didn’t ask!
