Thanks guys. The body paint is a bit hit and miss, I used enamel, and how well it sticks depends a lot on the primer (if any), and of course my evolving spray painting skills. The wheels I sprayed with Kill Rust "Classic Cream" without any thinner.
Peter, if you need help with your wiring, let me know. Did you buy a harness ? I'm making mine from individual wires from Autosparks.

A small update on the electrics install over on my thread.
It runs !!
After two years of not being started, the engine ran on the weekend. See video :

This milestone means my starting / ignition and charging wiring all works fine.
I had some trouble with the fuel pump, it was basically doing nothing, but after I disassembled it and freed up the valves it worked enough, but new one on order.

Yeah Peter, the painful part was getting the fuel filler fitted in place so I could get some fuel in the tank. Then I double checked all the electrics just to safe. First attempt to start on Saturday afternoon was a failure with no fuel coming through, so I consulted the neighbourhood petrol head brains trust on Saturday night over a few drinks, and worked out the fuel pump was not too good.
Next : seats and test drive :-)

Thanks Colin, yeah my problem was the valves too, but even after freeing them up the pump still wouldn't fill the filter, it was really just a trickle coming through.
The pump I have looks like it's an after market one as the valves can't be replaced, no valve seal / valve retainer in mine, so I just ordered the new one.

Another problem the 'varnish' caused was blocking of the fuel pickup tube. Each time fuel was drawn up it applied another layer of varnish to the inside which eventually almost bocked the dip tube. Only found this when I stripped & de-rusted the fuel tank.Quote:

Colin I am told a mixture of Bicarb and White Vinegar is the go for dealing with aged/solidified ULP.I have not given it a go myself as yet, but a member of a vehicle club I am in said he had to recently clean a couple of petrol tractor carbys that had "varnish" in them and it worked a treat.Maybe we need a "ready reckoner" here on AULRO for all these secret "Martha Gardner/Shannon Lush" type potions that are needed for various applications on our Land Rovers.Cheers, Mick.Quote:
