SupporterI have a 1968 Series IIA 109 with Holden 186. It’s registered in NSW but having moved to QLD it now needs to be re-registered here.
Is this just a case of putting it through a vehicle safety check or will the non-standard engine complicate the process?
To add further complication, the engine is a replacement and so the ID number does not match on my NSW paperwork (same engine type though).
Any advice from those that have been through the process would be greatly appreciated.

SubscriberI would first go to Tweed heads with the receipts for the correct engine and have the NSW documents correct.
I registered a Vitara in Qld .
You need a roadworthy certificate and if there are oil leaks it could be a PITA. Mine was passed as I was not selling the vehicle. It was $50 way back in 2004.
Then you take it to a Qld Transport branch for rego. I took mine to Mt Gravatt and a lovely lady was most helpful.

PhillipA is on the right track. Take it to a Motor Registry in NSW and have the correct engine no. on the registration documents. Transfer reg. into your name if not already on the NSW register. You will need a Qld. Safety Certificate from a licensed examiner. Unless rules have changed you don't have to pay stamp duty if you are re-registering in Qld form another state in the same name. Qld. Transport are red hot on oil leaks and the safety examiners are well aware and will tell you to fix them before issuing a certificate.Originally Posted by PhilipA

Yeah, get the paperwork right for NSW first before approaching Qld. A long while back we transferred our D1, with a replacement engine, to Qld. The Qld people took careful note of the change of engine details, which had to be right. Get it right first.
The good news is that once Qld accepts it all, your annual renewals don't require an inspection, just pay up.
