Thread: S3 heater into SIIA?

i dont think the Mt Mansfield set up includes dash controls, it looks like it will connect to a Series 3 dash.

I recall seeing some universal water type heaters on ebay, these are an alternative if you cant locate a smiths type.

The other alternative is a diesel heater , i recall seeing one of these mounted under the passenger seat and it seemed to work well.

the Mt Mansfield has a distribution box that goes in a series II/IIA with controls etc... it can also replace the series 3 standard heater.

I hadn't come across the Mt Mansfield heater but you're right, super expensive.

Blower, standard Series III.
Heater, could use standard Series III.
Distribution system is a fabrication with a couple of outlets and 'doors' to control heat direction. Should be possible to fabricate something maybe..

Yeah I was hoping someone on here might have had a crack at it but it seems not. I've posted on the Rovers North forum for more pics of how the distribution system looks in the cab, but nothing there either yet. I don't want to run a bunch of crappy downpipe around the cabin, I might even end up buying just the in-cabin parts of the Mt Mansfield because it does look like a neat install.

You could use the usual windscreen vents that are fitted to Series II's with Smiths heaters (there are a couple of different designs).
Just a couple of holes through the parcel shelf for the pipe.



You then need a fabricated box to fit in the above passenger footwell (mating with the heater on the other side) with connections for the windscreen vents and maybe an outlet to direct heat to the footwells.
The hard part is making 'doors' that direct the flow so you can bias to the windscreen.



Maybe literally a pair of doors like the Smiths heater, close the doors and airflow to the windscreen. Doors open at an angle to direct flow into driver & passenger footwells.

Best of luck, it'll be interesting to see what you come up with.

So cheap it's almost worth taking the risk......
Only issue is closing off vents to direct flow to the windscreen.

I have looked at those but I don't think they'd put out much heat for a cold Victorian morning.

I'm currently fabricating a mount for this unit: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-991102-1

I'll then make up a new face plate for it with outlets to the demisters and floor pans. It actually fits perfectly into the large hole in the passenger footwell, so I'm just going to make a box so it's recessed back a little for passenger comfort. Should look pretty nice from inside the cabin I think.

Adam this set up is in my 2A, series three heater box under the bonnet and this mod inside the cab.
However it might not be suitable with the six cylinder bulkhead like you have.
