Forgot to say it is a 65 S2a.
I had decided to leave the RB340 (square kind) voltage regulator when I redid the electrics as it was working and I thought it was a good idea at the time.
Well ... I took the engine out again yesterday and changed the rear main seal, as it was leaking, and got it going again this afternoon. To test it I revved the engine a bit - no oil leak but a boiling battery! So, no point in checking the sq. Voltage regulator, just going to replace it with the correct RB106 (rounded one)
My question- should it just be a straight swap or would the P.O. have made some kind of mod to get it working on the sq. box? I have checked and I have C40 stamped on the generator case.
Thanks guys.![]()

I think it is a straight swap, but I the labels on the terminals may not be the same. I assume it has been changed to negative earth? (Both regulators work with either polarity unless I am mistaken)

Yes negative earth so I would have thought it is a straight swap. It looks like I can get a spade terminal one from British auto parts in Melbourne.
you will need to make sure the wires are connected to the correct terminals, you should be able to find a diagram with these letters on them to help.
Once you are sure of the wiring you will need to set the field to make sure the regulator isnt in the wrong polarity. Youtube has videos on setting the field.
Once this is done use a volt meter and check the output voltage hopefull around 14 volts at 2500 rpm.

Thanks Ian - I’ll follow that exactly.
