Screw in Welch red Plug - diameter and thread

I am going to wear out my welcome here but I love this forum!

My 67 2A 109" has the 2.25 petrol engine. It is missing one of the screw in welsh plugs at the front of the engine on the LH side - the guy I bought it off said it had a "slow" leak. I would hate to see his version of fast...

It is the smaller of the welsh plugs that are above the main 3 push in plugs. There is one at the front and one at the back on the LH side just under the manifold.

Does any one know the diameter of the replacement? I assume the thread is BSP but would like that confirmed as well if I may.

    Cheers in advance

    Peter

Screw in Welsh Plug - diameter and thread

    Hi Peter,

    The part number is RTC4250.

It’s 1” and the thread is BS Conduit. I’ve just spent ages tracking down a thread tap for mine!

For some reason, there seems to be a worldwide shortage of RTC4250’s at the moment! Just about every website is listing “out of stock”. I know, because I’m also trying to track one down!

Thanks Marcus, I appreciate that. Yes, the hunt continues then. I did see some listed on Aussie sites but out of stock until July. Hence now, I am trying to find an alternative - even if only temporary.

Do you mind sharing where you sourced the tap from?

    Cheers

    Pete

    Thanks Lionel,

Yes, I did actually see that this morning so will order one!

Peter, the tap I bought off an engineering supply store on eBay and just arrived yesterday. You’re welcome to borrow it after I’ve used it. Where are you located?

Hey Marcus, I am up in Woodend about 1hr north of Melbourne. Very kind of you mate if it is "doable" - I am pulling the manifold off this weekend so I can actually see what I am doing!

I have some brass ones made up here for the purpose, 1" x 16 TPI Conduit Thread.
They just need to be slotted with a hacksaw then fitted with some form of thread sealant.
They are basically the same as these alloy ones, but made of brass.
    $15 per Plug plus postage.

    Cheers, Mick.

Isn't the domed disc type a Welch plug, a threaded plug is just a plug ?
