    Chassis and Underbody Clean Up

Hey guys, is there a way (or product) that can clean up the underbody - essentially the light surface rust that seems to cover everything? I ultimately will do a body off re-store but in the mean time would like to clean up and treat the underbody as best i can. All thoughts welcome! Cheers

A few years back I put mine up on a hoist and soaked everything in degreaser, then hit it with a high pressure hose, not your standard Gerni but a 4 stroke thing. After everything had dried, I sprayed underneath with Penetrol in a degreaser gun. It dries to a semi-gloss finish and suppose to stop rust

You could try the KBS Chassis Coater kit, which includes degreaser, then rust treatment, then an “impenetrable” sealer. After reading the reviews I used it on my S2a, and now I am using it on my S3. I was very impressed by it, all were top quality products. The coating is incredible, but it might be over the top for now if you are just seeking an interim solution.

Nice one and good to know. I will check it out. My interims tend to be rather long on occasion....

if its just light surface rust then brush rust converter over it. If you try to put a coating over it you run the risk of creating an incubation chamber for rust under that coating. Having said that, they rust from the inside out anyway, so if there's rust on the outside there's definitely more rust on the inside of the chassis.

I know KBS includes a rust converter treatment but it seems pretty expensive if you're going to do a body off resto later. No layer is ever "impenetrable" and as soon as you get some chips and water gets under that layer, its game over. Like these maniacs that put rhino liner on everything.

    Cheers,

    Adam
