Correction to earlier! As below the listing I see here says 61 on so maybe not for 1959?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can tell me whether a 1967 Series 2a 2.25P flywheel housing and flywheel will fit to a 1959 Series 2 2.25P engine. Thanks in advance

I am pretty certain all 2.25 Series 2/2a (and 3 at least up to the five bearing engine) are interchangeable. The flywheel housing for Series 2 2.0 and the 2a/3 six are not.
The bell housings changed with changes in gearbox layshaft bearing, so make sure you are talking about the flywheel housing, not the bell housing, which depends on both the engine and gearbox.

Thanks John and Davros,
John, definitely talking about the flywheel housing.
The thing that threw me is the 2/2a parts book has different p/n for the housings, but looks like a common p/n for the flywheel. On further consideration I am hoping this is to do with the loss of the viewing panel for the flywheel timing marks rather than a change in the arrangement of the bolt holes to the engine or bell housing between 2/2a (which is really what I want to confirm - but my engine is on a stand at present so I can’t marry up). So if I fitted the later housing I might have to add a custom TDC marking on the front timing cover and pulley before I close the engine, as I wouldn’t be able to see the flywheel marking anymore. Hoping to confirm this makes sense!
Yes, I am pretty certain the difference will be the aperture for the timing marks. But note that this did not change with the change from S2 to S2a, but during S2a production.
(I did say "interchangeable) I guess that if necessary, the pointer can be added to the timing case and a mark made on the fan pulley!

John, your expertise has shone through yet again! It so happens that I have a 62 S2a in the yard, and as you suggested it has the housing with the aperture which I can add to the S2 donk, instead of using the set off my 67 S2a. You were right on the money. Thanks again mate
