    New problem this morning

This morning I was driving to the village to get the mail and some petrol. The 2a started making a high pitched squeaky rattle I could not identify it, but it sounded serious, perhaps a U-joint on the front propshaft? Maybe a bit of fencing wire caught upinderneath and rubbing on on the front propshaft? I stopped a couple of times on the way and crawled under to look for problems, without success.

At the second gate on the way back I spotted the problem - the bit of pressed aluminium across under the windscreen covering the wiper mechanism is held by four 2BA screws. The furthest right one was very loose, and the washer was rattling between the head of the screw and the bit of metal that was acting as a sounding board. Thirty seconds with the screwdriver in the glove box fixed the problem.

It's years since I've had that screw undone, and it has never done this before.

The car is merely telling you that you don't need a hearing test, John. Very kind of it IMO.

I’ve been dealing with a metallic clunking on Sid for months now, thought it was the hood stay, then the starter cable, been driving me nuts

Found the problem the other day, when I snapped the gear stick, I threw the shaft on the top of the dash and it had settled out of sight , not enough to rattle, but enough to rock back and forth clunking…
