Handbrake expander rod? Straight or kinky?

    Hi all,
Can I please ask which expander rod I should have for an early 2a? App. 61 model.
The one which came off was straight but it has not worn the bushing evenly and looks like it should be a kinked one? Probably 218391?
all the h/brake components are the earlier S1 style parts, I.e. housing is 230741 with the older backing plate etc
    appreciate any guidance.
(I need to replace the housing too as my housing has cracked.)
redoing it all to be honest
    thanks
    Kai

Thank you but that is the later one I think.
The shape won’t fit the holes in the backing plate I have?

i guess my question is why are some rods straight as opposed to kinked?

My 53 S1 80 inch is kinked. Same on the 51 brake plate.
Not sure why they would have changed the Rod, as the kink clears it from the gearbox.

Parts book shows them all the same - the rod from the relay or bell crank to the lever, on the other hand, changed after suffix C. But I think both are straight.

I think you're talking about the expander to relay lever rod, part number 218391 for the kinked version.

Parts manual said they lasted up to gearboxes numbered 146000565, 156000430, and 151005187. So I don't know if it's possible to draw a clear line in the sand like "1962" or "suffix C" or whatever.

    Hope that helps.

Left, rod 218391. Right 515926. The part inside the housing is different.

Thank you for the help. The last pic with the backing plates does help too - including spring locations - Thanks B.S.F!

I have the Left hand Series 1 style setup.

The relay rod I have seems very original, but who knows. I will try and source a kinked rod I think to better align with the relay lever.

Does anyone here have one they would part with possibly?? A 218391???

And if it at all possible an expander housing?? (230471) Mine is broken.

Happy to pay reasonable $ of course.

    Thanks again.
