This was my IIa shorty that I bought cheap with a Datsun SD30/5sp with Salisbury and lot of rust.
It was a great learning experience for me as it had a V8/LT95 out into it, sprung over on 37" claws, Toy axles and pushed out to 100 wheelbase from the rear axle with a coil conversion. Sadly it was chopped up and scrapped as I wasn't happy with the chassis condition. My thoughts were confirmed when disposing of it, as there were some weak points found.

The next is a Series II ute which I named Ute2 - as it was the second ute after the blue shorty. The name was a bit of a play on words with the band U2 also.
I bought it on Ebay a year ago and decided that this would be the "hindsight" truck, including everything that I would have done differently after the previous jigger. I was a semi ex-mil in great shape with what seemed to be a replacement chassis. It had a 2.25 petrol, whined and smelt like it was burning. Something special to drive, especially after coming out of a Disco2.
This one has evolved somewhat over the last 12 months, and has a V8/LT95, Toyota steering, Toyota boosted brakes, Toyota axles etc. the guards are also an enhanced military cut. Tyres in the pics are 37's, though these will come back to a 35/36 to clear the headlights. This pic is a little old, but it's running now, but just waiting for a wire job.

Cheers

Hello everyone,
My name is Gromit the Land Rover. I was sent over to Australia in a box and assembled by the Pressed Metal Corporation in early 1969. I can't remember much of my early days in Australia but somehow I ended up in Orange, NSW where I was forgotton about. Many of my parts were taken away from me for other Land Rovers while I sat sadly in a paddock.
I was rescued from Orange and taken to Cowra by Mike Leys. Mike gave me a diesel engine from a Series 3, a new gearbox, fixed my brakes and gave me a new coat of green paint.
But then Mike got more interested in an older Land Rover called Fitzgerald. So I sat in Mike's garden under the washing line for a few more years. One day, a young couple arrived in a fancy green Range Rover and took me back to the naval base in Jervis Bay. I took a long time to get there but I didn't break down! I lived proudly at the Naval college for another year until I helped my new owners move house again to southern Sydney.
I regularly help with the gardening and I am the only car big enough to carry my owners and their labradors around. I do like to leave messy oil stains on my driveway to mark my territory though.
I've also proudly taught at least two young people to drive!
My current owners are in the process of tidying up my interior and preventing me from leaking oil everywhere. My worst one is the rear diff pinion seal.
I have a Toro overdrive and can do nearly 60mph on flat roads, but I don't like going up steep hills very quickly.
I also have two horns: an 'angry' horn in the centre of the steering wheel that I use to yell at those funny cars from Korea that like to swerve in front of me.
My 'happy' horn says "oooooohgaaaah". I often use this to say hello to other Land Rovers and nice people who wave.
I have tough ex-Army Olympic bartread boots to make lots of noise when I go fast and they help me keep my grip on muddy roads.
I look forward to another 40 years of getting around, although I do hear my owners talk excitedly about a new Defender. I haven't seen one on the road yet, but I'm sure it can't be as useful as I am.
I'll be trundling around the southern highlands and the south coast over the Christmas holidays, so if I pass by, please give a wave to my owners or flash your lights at me.
Merry Christmas
Gromit
