engine not in, now busted the gearbox mounts

grr, i should have bought gearbox mounts the same time as the engine mounts, tried to lift the gearbox a bit to help ease the engine in that refuses to line up, and both mounts went pop.

is it going to be easier to remove the bulkhead, remove engine and gearbox, fit the 2 together then lift the entire unit into the car, tried 3 times to get the engine to mount to the gearbox, and it is about 1/2 inch away and not going together engine turns over so it should be lining up with the clutch etc

G'day All, An old trick to help with lining up engine 2 G/box, buy 4 3/8" whit bolts approx 4" (100mm) in length, cut of the heads, file a radius (or grind it) on the end where you have removed heads, undo 4 of the bolts (pick 4 that will be easy to get at i.e. like the clock 12 3 6 9 or whatever remove the studs and screw in your 4 x 4" whit bolts now re-swing engine line these up into the G/box bell housing and provided you have aligned your clutch properly it should go together with no fuss, hope that is of some help and get a mate to help as sometimes it is a PIA cheers Dennis
PS have a trolley jack as well to lift the front of the G/box as it helps to have them both in the same plane if you know what i mean.

even easier is a plank about an inch thick and about 4 wide by about 10 or so inches long.

sit that under the gearbox on the cross member with about 3 inchs of it hanging out on the engine side.

sit the adaptor on the engine onto the plank of wood slide it back untill the 4 locating dowls (from the previous posts)engage the bell housing and when they just engage check all 4 for length and then if they are within a mm or so insert 4 of the normal studs+nuts or bolts and do them up 1/2 a turn at a time in the same pattern youd use for doing up a 4 stud wheel and your set.

If youve already had major issues getting it in check the spigot bearing for damage.
