    My first series Landy!

    Hi all,

I have purchased my first series Land Rover . It is a series 2A wagon with a galvo chassis.

I like the idea of the galvo chassis, I havn't seen many series 4 doors around (plus it will be easier with the kids). It has a diesel engine and a supposed reco gearbox.

The vehicle is a bit of a bitza, I will take better photo's when I pick it up this Thursday. There seems to be a lack of compliance and build plates on the vehicle , but it is still listed on the Transport Tas system so getting rego done might not be too bad.

Here is a few pics, no doubt I will be asking a lot of questions in the near future and perhaps visiting some of the Tassy guys with series vehicles to check them out.

    Cheers Andy

Nice work!!! I'll actually be driving my series 3 down your way in march, but I won't be stopping long, just long enough to hop on the boat on tuesday night

It should scrub up well, and a colour like that stands out well. Have you got a chassis number for it??

    Hi Phoenix

You will have to let me know the date you are leaving, I will try and catch up before you go through the marshaling yard.

No chassis number as yet, I will update you as soon as I locate any ID bits on the vehicle.

    Cheers Andy.

That looks like a ex- Navy station wagon - Phoenix - you will need to put the numbers on REMLR when you get them.

That's part of the reason why i'm asking garry, because from those photos, and our previous discussions about this vehicle, there is a chance that it is navy (and if we prove it, expect me to come banging on your door to join our military vehicle club Andy )

Colour, wagon, white roof (not cream) and safari roof - make it almost a certainty - not too many people will change colour to that blue.

Some Navy vehicles may have army Id plates if they originally camke from the army but most like this one would have been straight civvy spec - should have a civvy chassis and not the army extended spring hanger version.

It would not have had a ARN or a (NRN) as such as navy vehicles were registered as Commonwealth vehicles - as such would have commonwealth plates of the period. Many started with ZN eg ZNC-012

I am not sure but most establishments had a few and operational units such as Diving Teams and trials, test and evaluation teams had some.

Yup, we have no numbers on navy or air force vehicles. something I want to rectify, but have no idea how to, or if it's even possible!

For the Navy - these were just like any other vehicle - nothing special - could you ever chase down how many HQs, or Bluebirds, or Valiants or Toyotas or even Volvo buses that were used by any of the forces - unlikely - the best place to look would be in Landrover Aust, BMC, Leyland, JRA records etc rather than Navy records - but then you never know - if you could track someone down who works for the Naval Support Command who previously worked at NSC Zetland (previously the Leyland factory) they might know something.
