Mongrel comes home!

Well I changed the oil and filters, flushed the fuel tank and bled the fuel system .

A few turns of the starter and Mongrel roared to life :BigThumb:. For an older vehicle the diesel ran so smooth, I would go as far to say it was quieter than my 300Tdi.

A quick lap around the yard to test the brakes and clutch :burnrubber:and then into the shed. Mechanicaly the old girl is a ripper (so far).

Call me stupid, but how do you replace all the wheel studs with the later ones. My Disco nuts screw onto the threads and the wheels fit. Were they built with the same thread?

More pulling apart this arvo, I start back at work tonight on night shift. Just had 4 weeks holidays, it was great! I work 3 nights and then go onto 5 days off, I guess I will spend most of them in the shed.

I think you will find it's the vice versa, the wheel studs and stud pattern of the disco is the same as the series one. IE, you can fit series rims and tyres to a disco. not really advisable because of the taller tyres (without trimming), but they do fit.

That looks very like an Ex-Navy Station Wagon:) and a diesel at that, if it is Ex Navy it may well have had the strengthened front diff, and the Salisbury rear, most of the rest of it would be standard Station Wagon

Hi all.

I have found the chassis number (27800214) I can't make out the suffix letter though. Are they in uppercase or lowercase letters?

I have pulled a bit more apart including taking the roof off, the pillars and rear door frames all seem to be galvo is this the norm?

A few more pics, nothing special yet though, I have been working a fair bit on different shifts and not getting out to the shed.

Rear springs look solid enough!

The letters are in upper case mate .
Looks like you got a lot of cleaning to do in them diffs :o . By the looks of it some water has gotten into the diff with the color of the oil and grease . happy cleaning buddy ;):D:wasntme:
