    6cyl Bulkhead in a 4cyl???

    Hi all.

I am looking for a donor vehicle to help get Mongrel on the road.

Is it possible to put a 6cyl bulkhead in Mongrel? (4cyl diesel)

Does it change the tunnel so that the gear sticks are out of line with the holes?

I will take more pics of mongrel soon, I need to source a good drivers side swivel housing, the one I have has got severe pitting. Does anyone know of a brand of liquid metal, I have heard it can be used to smooth over the pitting and add life to the housing.

    Thanks for your help Andy.

All the gearsticks are 3.5-4in further rearward in a 6cyl. It may be possible to do but be ready for some major bodging. Ideally, find a 4cyl firewall (petrol and diesel versions are identical).
Do you still have Mongrel's original firewall? It may be possible to carefully graft the 4cyl centre panel onto the 6. Not a small job though.
Please don't quote me on this as I have a feeling I've overlooked something critical, and I don't have the two types of firewall to cross-reference.

I think dandylandyman has about covered it - the gearbox is about 4" further back in the six. The critical point is that the levers will all be pretty much in the clutch housing hump on the six firewall.

The suggestion to fit the centre lower section from the old bulkhead is probably the best idea, but better would be to find a decent four cylinder one.

Andy , I maybe able to get my hands on a series 3 4cyl fire wall with no rust but does have a couple of flex cracks (easily welded ) . Not sure what it would cost to get from colac to tassie tho . Let me know if you are interested .

    Hi Mick.

Thanks for your offer, I reckon I will try and source a donor vehicle down here as I think freight would be a killer. The firewall in Mongrel is from a 58 model so I will want other bits like cable wipers ( it has twin wipers at the moment).

To fit a S3 I think I need to change the windscreen as well or change the mounting bracket don't I?

This is what my swivel at the front looks like, any sugestions on how to smooth it over would be great. There was water in the joint when I took it apart!

    Cheers Andy.

    G'day Andy-M

British Off Road in Qld used to do an exchange chrome swivel housing,so there could be somebody like the Mob in Melbourne that do them as well, on an exchange basis

As for the Firewall, try to source a 4 cylinder one, the later Cable wiper ones have the wiper pivot holes in the Firewall above the vents, and the early (pre 1967) have the wipers mounted in the windscreen frame

    cheers

    Exclamation Swivel

I priced 4x4 Melbourne for Refurb swivels and was priced $320 perside if i remember correctly. I have a spare better one then the pic you posted.
I am trying a method of sweating tin solder into the pits on the ones I am refiting and will let you know how it goes.
When do you need the swivel?
