    Bulkheads - S2 and 2A

My '58 Series 2 4 cyl has a very rusty bulkhead, which while repairable would certainly take considerable effort and probably isn't worth that effort.

So apart from the early style ventilator controls, is there much difference between a S2 bulkhead and a S2A 4 cyl bulkhead? I think the best thing to do would be find one in better condition,

    Cheers Charlie

The differences are minor, and in any case are not the difference between 2 and 2a - there were progressive variations, all of which were pretty minor. Such things as slightly different holes and holes in different places, for example, the early ones (up to 67) had the wipers mounted on the windscreen, whereas later ones had cable operated wipers mounted in the LH glovebox, entailing a hole above it, holes above the vents for the wiper shafts, and holes for the cover over the motor. Similar changes with moving the choke from below the instrument panel on to it.

If you fit a later bulkhead, you can expect to have to block (either weld, bog or rubber plugs etc) some holes and probably drill some others, but this aspect of the changeover will not be significant compared to the overall job.

The vent controls you mention are fully interchangeable and do not affect the bulkhead itself.

Thanks John; that was the answer I was hoping for

What about the S3 4 cyl bulkheads; much the same or not?

G'day All, Chazza the Series 3, 4cyl B/head is very very different from the Series 2/2A 4 cyl i.e. cannot use. I have a very good late mod S2A 6cyl B/head, which could be used if you are handy with a mig and also have the 4cyl center section (thats the difference between 4-6cyl B/heads) they could be exchanged, but your on the other side of the planet mate LOL anyway good luck with it cheers Dennis

    Thanks Dennis!

I knew I was pushing my luck with the S3 bulkhead; Murphy has made sure that I have two of them and no use for them either
