No. No Series Landrover, as far as I know, had a tacho as either standard or optional equipment. After market ones, however are not uncommon, although I have never seen one in that location.

THanks in advance to the brainstrust again.
Is this standard equipment the little guage in the centre is a tacho STAR brand? Just asking if it is worth getting fixed when I get the speedo done or just get an aftermarket one to fill the hole.

 strange locations
strange locations seem to be the theme for this one I picked up, a commodore fuel tank mounted in the tray. One of the most bizarre electrical patch up jobs i have ever seen. The exhaust under the floor and running through the rear pto section. This keeps the passenger warm, could prob cook an egg in the footwell. I"m slowly getting it sorted Commodore fuel tank out today and a series one installed. Just about got the wiring sorted. then re-route the exhaust to a sensible location.

The head light switch should be where the tachometer is.
Aaron.
There were some Series 2 and Series 2a that had optional "oil pressure" or the combined "oil pressure/water temperature" gauge in that location but I don't believe that I have ever seen a key start with that configuration.
Never a tachometer.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
IMHO I like some fixes that come out of inventiveness, it is where progress stems from.
Irrespective of the "hot foot" issues, the exhaust running through a redundant PTO hole, will never be crushed between the chassis and a rock, or damaged by even the most extreme situations off road.
I wonder if the Commodore tank was an additional tank before the main tank died and the add on became the main?
Some workmanship can however be appalling and you are right to correct it.

G'day Olive Drab
Is this an ex-army Landy?? if so the centre hole where the Tacho is would have had a combined oil Pressure/Temp guage smiths brand, capillory type temp, and line type oil pressure, it would also had a combination Ign/park /headlight switch, with a push button solenoid switch under the dash, if it was ex-army, it would have had the exhaust pipe routed throught the PTO holes, curving up from the front, over the gearbox X-member,under the passengers floor, and through the PTO holes,(yes, it does give the Passenger a hot foot, mine has a piece of heavy rubber conveyor belt under outdoor carpet fitted) across the rear to exit at the rear of the right hand wheel well, there are bracket mounts on the chassis (if it is a LWmuffler can be between the chassis x members after the transfer box, or across the rear between the chassis rails
the military 2a has 2 x 50 litre tanks, with screw-in dipsticks, and a fuel change-over tap mounted on the front face of the seatbox onthe right side close to the transmission tunnel. all the original Lucas switches are still available, s/hand from swap meets or new from KB Classic Spares
Hope that is of some help
cheers
Does VDO or a similar brand make a tacho that small?
I've been seriously considering installing one next to the voltmeter in my ex-Rural Fire Service LWB ute.
I'll have to find a pic but they put some sheet metal on either side of the steering column and fitted some switches and the guage on the LHS of the steering column and a fuse box on the other, presumably for the spotlights and beacon, etc.
A little tacho the same size next the voltmeter would be perfect.
Yes you see them advertised for later model defenders
or ones like this New 2" Performance Tachometer Gauge New
