From my commencing vehicle numbers list that I have it is as follows:
Export RHD Stg. CKD
88" W/base 2.25 litre
Commencing chassis No 24300001A in 1961
So your vehicle is the 2376th chassis produced, and as the model year started in July/August and with shipping to BMC Australia it would probably have arrived in about Nov/Dec of 1961 then assembled at Pressed Metal Corp Enfield in Sydney, (unless it was sold through Annand & Thompson Brisbane, as they often imported some complete vehicles from UK as well as selling CKD vehicles) so I would put your vehicle as a 1961 model standard SWB hardtop,"standard" vehicle was only fitted with one windscreen wiper, hardtop would have been an extra,(options list) as would have been all and any towing fitting and blinkers were optional on commercial vehicles up until 1962 9at least in Qld) Annand & Thompson Ltd Brisbane price list June 1962, lists 88" petrol engine at Australian 1372 pounds.13 shillings.9 pence($2745.40) prices for 88" full metal hood (hardtop) was extra 125 pounds($250) Registration in Qld private: 15 pounds 14 shillings 6 pence($31.45) Third Party Ins. 7 pounds 1shillings ($15.10)
I hope that gives you an idea of the Era and the prices,as well as the date info for your vehicle 1961 model first year of the 2a
I was going to paste a link to a UK based site called LRFAQ the day you first placed this thread however the site seems to have dissapeared. However, long story short is the attached table is from that website which I svaed ages ago but couldn't find until today. What it shows is the build date data for known chassis numbers. So all you need to do is find where yours fits in and voila you know the age. Which I think is makes yours built after Dec '61 and before Dec '62.

.... Well thanks to you Ho. I figured it was there abouts. Actually I am only the second owner of this vehicle and it has not moved that far from its earlier life. I have the original rego plates and a contact for the original owner, And I could make a fair guess which motor dealership it was purchased from.
You know, I believe the gearbox etc is still totally untouched, and it doesnt leak oil. The front swivells are pretty scored, but the 'groil' lubricant option works OK. I'm about to give her a 10 year workover wrt springs, shackles, exhaust and brakes, and not much else. That should see the 'Ol girl OK for the next 10 years. She is very free from rust, and garaged.
I guess I'm hooked on this old bird, I call it my 'Low overheads' farm 4WD . I had a 2 1/4 Station Wagon - ex PNG Telecom vehicle - of the same vintage 30 years ago that was the vehicle of many an adventure & Story. ........... Hugh
I had a look at a 88' S2a on the weekend, chassis No34302197a.....
exactly 180 vehicles before yours.
Unfortunately, this vehicle is only good for spares as the chassis is almost completely rusted out... but she still runs well, original motor, gearbox etc, evan running a generator..
Nothing wrong with a generator... I recon that batteries last longer under gene charge. I had a "New" battery on hand for 2 years waiting for my landy 5yo battery to die. I also have a farm tractor here (Ford 4000 6X) with a gene and I keep it that way.
My fav Auto electrician hereabouts has no trouble servicing Lucas stuff of the 60's.
Chassis rusted out on 2197a - that is sad. I am surprised how little rust I have, and my beast lives on a dairy farm. I guess I dont really use it in the dairy mud that much and it is garaged. Maybe the dried mud coating the underside protects it from the next layer of wet stuff on top - grin.
