which carby?
Hi guys,
I have recently rebuilt the carby (solex)on my IIa, but it still seems to be leaking petrol below the bowl at the front , it only leaks after having been driven and switched off. It leaks for several minutes after being switched off.
Any ideas on what the problem is caused by and how to fix it. Can anyone recommend a place that would be able to reco the carby properly in Brisbane.
Thanks Ben

I have the same problem with my 61S2A solex, I plan to change to Zenith. My theory is that the float level and the level of the port on the central tower thingy (with the air jet screwed into its top) at the centre of the carb is related and important because if that tower which is press fitted into the carb body leaks, the float bowl will empty into the manifold over time each time you switch the engine off. The petrol you see is probably that which falls onto the throttle spindle and leaks out the spindle hole.
My central tower thingy broke where the air jet screws in so I made one which works well but doesn't seal well in the carb body hence leaks as described above. I either need to get a new part or change to Zenith.
Do you have to either manually work your fuel pump or wind the engine over lots (because the float bowl is empty)
Just my theory...cheers Les
it might be leaking from (and this is exceedlinly rusty disused memory here) one of the lead seals for a pilot tube, when the engines running and under vacume it wont leak when you stop no vac so it can leak.
rebuild time. replace it with a zenith... Its what ID do....

G'day All, From my memory you can't fit a Zenith carburettor to a engine which had a Solex carburettor fitted, unless you have the carb/adaptor, are the mounting at right angles to each other?, I have a S2A 109 with a Zenith and it has this on it I'm certain, but it's way too dark n cold to be outside undoing ropes/tarps to look LOL anyway cheers Dennis![]()
i had a leak on my 692a 109, its a solex carb. i found the leak to be comming from the mechanical pump outlet pipe, it was a loose pipe nut. i went over everything and made sure hose clamps etc and tightned them up.
