    Air intake modification

    Hi all

Is there any major problem with replacing the whole oilbath filter and hose assembly (2.25 P S2A), with one of those circular air filter units (with a reputable air filter installed) directly on top of the carby?

This setup will only be for city driving, when going into dustier environments
i would reconnect the oil bath.

    cheers

I have a hilux filter assembly on mine, fitted into the LH guard.

A (correctly sized) cellulose fibre (paper) air filter will be more efficient than the oilbath. There is a reason they aren't used any more.

As isuzurover says, there is no reason not to use one, although you may find the clearance under the bonnet limits your choice of filters unless you use a remote one as he suggests, and provided the installation is airtight and the element of adequate size.

Has anyone put a snorkel on a Series? would like to know about it

seems there is plenty of room next to the firewall on the LH side to fit a remote air box but don't know about a sorkel as I like to fold my windscrene down on a regular basis...

    yes.

If I ever wanted to fold the screen down it would take about 2 minutes to remove the snorkel (2 screws, 1 bolt and a hose clamp).

There is a hilux filter housing squeezed into the spot where the heater would be on a SIII.

    Ben

Has the RAEME RSM ever put you on report for damaging a military Land Rover?

    Diana

P.S. Newbs IIa: Snorkels have been optional extras for Land Rovers since the 80" model.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I think you meant to say "improving"

Given the modifications done to it in Vietnam, I don't think they have a leg to stand on:

It was basically a rolling wreck when I bought it, as it had been neglected as a shooting hack then badly rolled by the previous owner. But the panels are all original, I painstakingly straightened them all - even though the sides of the rear tub were caved in about 12" in the middle on each side.

It is badly in need of a respray though, and I am contemplating returning it to olive drab.
