    G'day Gordon,
The way I understand it, the sliding windows are for elbow room, not ventilation
    Cheers,

And of course you can remove the door tops. But I would check the legality of having no opening window next to the driver - I have a feeling this may be required for such things as handing your licence to the cop who pulled you up and for paying tolls, putting tickets in parking station boom gate machines etc.

Where to get them, the non-definitive list

For future generations seeking such things:
Reproduction door tops are made by Britpart and Bearmach in the UK.

Bearmach are imported by karcraft (Karcraft Australia Pty Ltd)

    Both Bearmach and Britpart are listed in Rovacraft's catalogues (WA, NSW, Vic)(www.rovacraft.com.au);

Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne apparently have door tops, not sure which repro ones. Also known as 'that mob' often partnered in sentence with 'buyer beware'. (Four Wheel Drives - Land Rovers New and Used Spare Parts)

FWD motors (not related to above co.)in Brisbane have or have had Perentie door tops which are similar but one piece aluminium (still with steel bolts) (FWD Motors Pty Ltd)

GaryCLR (ebay, Sydney based) gets Bearmach and Britparts stuff, so he can probably supply them.

All Fourx4 at Kotara, NSW might stock door tops but their website doesn't have a catalogue per se (All Four x 4 Spares - Home)

Land Vehicle Spares I have no idea about because at time of writing they seem to have forgotten to renew their domain name (landvehiclespares.com)

I think $120 is a common price per door top, but I don't know first-hand

You will also need bailey channel.

Supercheap auto have shiny stainless steel wheel lug nuts that can be used to secure your new door tops to the door bottoms. 7/16ths by 20mm if I recall correctly.

Anyway, I'm sure other places stock the reproduction door tops but that list should be a good start

    Cheers,
    Mark

I got my door tops via ebay for $120 each, and the rubbers and channels came with it. (Including the rubber that sits under the door top) It was just the matter of swapping over the glass, and packing aluminium. Which company manufactured them, I have no idea though..

Hmmm...good timing...Gary CLR has put two pair of door tops up on ebay with bailey channel and rubber bits etc:
Land Rover Series 2 - 3 New Door Top Set - eBay Doors, Door Handles, Exterior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 09-Sep-09 09:03:15 AEST)
    and
Land Rover Series 2 - 3 New Door Top Set - eBay Doors, Door Handles, Exterior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 09-Sep-09 09:03:40 AEST)

So theres an easy option. And I'm not connected to Gary CLR 'cept as a customer.
    Cheers,

Great work! - however a slight addition / correction.

FWD motors usually also have standard repro door tops in stock (the ones my dad bought were SIII type). They fit well, and look exactly the same as the originals.

The perentie door tops I got from FWD were 2nd hand, and do not use bailey channel - or rather they have an alloy double I-beam looking thing on the frame, and an inverted U attached to the top and bottom of the glass sections. They also lock the glass in any position - not just lock it closed like the series tops. The steel bolts which hold them on are metric and smaller diameter than the series bolts. They thread into alloy nuts/blocks in the door top.

    Hi Ben,
Does the following look anything like the Perentie tops?

They are welded aluminium, the bolts are steel and are attached to captive steel blocks inside the door top. They have the series 3 style plastic lock. From your description this is a different beast again.
