    Wipers and Brakes info needed

    Hey Guys

Does anyone know the wiring for the series 3 wiper motor??. I take it that they are a sinlge speed motor. What are the wires running through the thing that looks like a ballast resistor of sorts. Mine is blowing fuses and I found one to replace it on fleaybay. Also are the brake systems a PITA to bleed on the 2a as my master cylinder looks like crap and I want to change it. I remember doing the old Classic Rangie I had (what a mission).

    Regards Ian

I think you need to tell us which model S2a you have. The 6 cyl have a different master cylinder to the 4cyl and the 109" have different brakes than the 88" provided that what's original is still what's fitted.

The ballast resistor thingo on the back of the instrument panel is a voltage stabiliser for the fuel and temp gauges.

Why do you ask the Q about the SIII wiper in the S2 section when the terminals are the same for the single speed WM*.

    On the wiper motor the:
    • Black wire should so from terminal 1 to ground.
    • Red/Light Green from terminal 2 on the switch to terminal 5 on the WM.
    • Green comes from ignition to terminal 4 on the switch and continues to terminal 4 on the WM.
    • Brown/Light Green goes from 3 on the switch to terminal 2 on the WM.

Now you have this information, Get yourself a workshop manual and parts manual and RTFM.

    Diana

    * Late SIII had 2 speed wiper motors

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

According to the diagram I have the S3 motor is two speed and has three wires to the switch - these are for parking (green) - live when ignition is on, and one for each speed (lightt green with red and brown tracers). There is also an earth lead (black).

What year Model is it???. My 75 model LR has a single speed, and my 79 model has a double speed wiper motor??

Here is a diagram I found in my Series III Service manual... (Should help)

    31 - Wiper Switch
    37 - Wiper Motor
43 - Windscreen Washer (If you have that in the switch, like my 79 Model does)

The diagram denotes the single speed motor..

    Colour Code:

    B - Black
    G - Green
    L - Light
    N - Brown
    P - Purple
    R - Red
    U - Blue
    W - White
    Y - Yellow

(Last letter of a colour code denotes the tracer colour)

Might suggest you get one of these manuals (2nd Pic) As it has all the wiring stuff in it.. Seen heaps on Ebay.

    Thanks Guys
It's 66 S2a suffix C but someone has put a S3 wiper motor in it at some stage. It
is blowing fuses at the moment so I will pull it out and check the windings. Must chase up a manual though,

    Cheers Ian

Are you sure it's 2 speed? The single speed speed wipers have 3 wires from the switch to the motor and the same colour codes as in both the SIIa and SIII books.

Black earth correct and green for ignition power, however the other two are for the wiper switch and the park circuit which uses the park circuit and the ignition to power the motor to park.

This is why if you turn off the ignition the wipers do not park.

The 2 speed wipers have 5 wires.

I can't add anything to the wiper discussion, but I recently had the brakes on my (ex-mil) 2A bleed. I took it down to the local "Brakes Plus" and they pressure bleed the whole system. They fitted a dummy cap onto the top of the master cylinder which was connected to a pressurised (about 8psi) container full of new brake fluid. They then cracked the bleed valve on the back left wheel (furtherest away from the master cylinder), then back right and so on.

The result is a complete flush of all lines and new fluid. $39 bucks all done and I have good brakes on a 2A, very happy
