Brake/Stop Light switch

G'day all,
What actuates the stop lights when you depress the brake pedal on series 2As? As long as I have owned it my vehicle hasn't had the rear lights hooked up, and when I had the pedal assembly out there was no electrical wires or switches anywhere near. Looking in the 4 manuals I have, I didn't see any reference apart from bulb type, and the circuit diagram showing a switch.
Is it a hydraulic pressure switch, is the switch at hub level, or is mine missing?

Sounds like you have a hydraulic switch. Late 2a's have a mechanical switch in the cabin above the pedal. If you chassis number suffix is E or below you should have the hydraulic, which is in a junction down on the chassis below the master cylinder. If you follow the pipe from the master cylinder it goes straight there.

some of you may know already but i had to get a new brake switch for my RRC and found the exact switch at Super cheap auto for under $20 it has Lrov/Commdr labelled on it. cheaper than 4WD's and from UK.....! i think its th same as the 2a?

Talking about mechanical switches above the pedal . . .

Is it possible to install a pedal box, servo unit and dual brake cylinder from a Defender into a Series 2? Assuming that the brake lines etc got sorted out, is there anything to stop the bits bolting onto the firewall?

I have not actually compared them, but I think they will fit, the same as the late S3 boosted, dual circuit assembly will fit (I think the pedal box is the same, different M/C and booster for discs), subject to doing some modifications to the inner mudguard, actually the flat bit from the pedal box to the mudguard; this has a jog forward on the S3 to accommodate the boosted/dual M/C.

If planning on fitting the Defender assembly to a S2/2a, I would want to look very carefully at the master cylinder diameter and the size of the vacuum booster - the Defender ones are intended for disc brakes, where the Series 2/3 ones are intended for drum brakes with some self-servo action and different diameter wheel cylinders. Probably OK if you are fitting discs, but otherwise I would be very careful.
