    high ratio transfer gears

seriously considering putting high ratio gears in the 2a. She tends to get a bit warm in the summer months when highway cruising. She runs a xf 250 motor with c4 and has rangy diff centres but still revs too high, at 110kmh we're over 3000rpm.

What kit options are there and what should I expect to pay?

Please don't phone an answer as travelling at 110kmh in the old girl has made me deaf.

It might just be easier and cheaper to fit 33's???

Changing to 33's will drop revs to ~2800 rpm at 110.
A high ratio (1:1) t-case will drop revs to ~2600 rpm at 110.

Changing to 35's will drop your revs to ~2650rpm at 110.

What are the ratios like offroad??? You currently only have ~22:1 first low. The High ratio t-case will increase that to ~20:1, with no possibility of going lower. at least with the standard t-case you can fit suffix B gears to drop to ~25:1

The old girls almost due for some new rubber, don't know if it'll be cheaper but?
Not able to lift her for tyre clearance either. The c4 pushes the transfer case back and shortens the tailshaft which is now 40cm long. Had to get a range rover shaft shortened just to get the extra angle.

33's should fit easily without any mods. What tyres/wheels are you running at the moment???

Sounds like you may need to talk to these guys if your current tailshaft dies:
High Angle Drivline-Call Jesse at 530-877-2875

I recall the high ratio t-case kit was $1100ish many years ago. The price difference between 31/32" and 33" is only $50ish a tyre for similar aspect ratios (e.g. 235/85 vs 255/85). Plus you get the advantages of larger tyres offroad.

Running 10.5r 15's. Cheers for the tailshaft link, the rangey one does the job alright. Only had a problem with the original shaft when the roof first came off and the weight lifted off the back axle. Took a while to work out what the horible noise was under hard braking or sharp bumps.

As Jono mentioned, your 31's are smaller than the stock 32's. You are doing less than 110km/h at 3000 rpm.
