    Stupid question, freewheel hubs.

    Hey all,

I have what feels like a silly question regarding freewheel hubs, Selectro's in my case.

I had always thought that when they are turned to "engage" it means they are LOCKED.
Locked meaning 4x4 will be active.

When they are "Disengaged" they will be in freewheel mode.
    4x4 will not be active.

I only ask because someone tried to argue the opposite with me recently.

    Am i right?

    Thanks,
    Ash

You're right, but it is easy to check - park the vehicle, put it in four wheel drive, and engage the hubs. Jack up one front wheel - it will not turn. Disengage the hub - it will. (Note that because of the differential action, both hubs need to be engaged, but only one needs to be disengaged - but never drive with one engaged and one disengaged as it will cause excessive wear in the differential.)

    you're on the money.

to check if they are engaged or not just reach under with the tcase in 2wd and try to turn the front propshaft by hand.

    Nice one, thanks.

Just a side note for those who offered advice on the grease leak from my hub, did the o-rings and problem solved.
