    Rear Crossmember Replacement on swb.

    Hi All
    Can the rear crossmember on a swb series 3 be changed without removing the roof and tub.Mine has a fair bit of rust so i will cut the old one off an replace it with a new crossmember section.

    Hi Wayne,
    I believe you can, it was explained to me that you use the rear tub mounts to line up the new crossmember. Not sure if the tub then needs removing to weld the top of the chassis though?

    you dont have to take the tub off but it can make it easier just be carefull when cutting and welding

    For the sake of a few bolts, I would take the tub off. You'll also get a good chance to inspect the chassis properly and patch and holes and give her a paint

    Well that's my plan for when I get my rear cross member replaced.

    Rear Crossmember Replacement on SWB

    Thanks Guys for the helpful information.I went to a steel fabrictor today and he said he can cut the bad sections out and replace it with new metal.He is also going to repair some other sections that has rust at the same time.(door post,left floor well and radiator surport panel.)I now have to remove both front wings to give him access to the door post.How hard is it to remove the wiring before removing wings?

    Piece of cake!

    Look for the bullet connectors behind the radiator grill and to each side of it for the lights. The heater has two connectors, as does the coil if it has one. Squirt them with CRC first.

    Much trickier is to unbolt the wings - you will need a helper inside the cab holding a spanner and also to undo the fasteners where the RH wing joins the front panel and where the splash panels join the wings. Worst of all are the bolts which hold the wings to the bulkhead but with a bit of good luck, patience and some CRC, they will come off,
