Hub oil seal fitting - sealant?

    Hey all

The im doing wheel bearings and hub seals at the moment.

Im just wondering if I should use some sort of sealant compound around the outside edge of the seal when I press it into the hub?

It looks like the old seal had something put onto it when fitted.

    Thanks
    Ash

I have always just replaced the hub seal (the one behind the rear bearing) without any and had no problems.

some seals come with a glue on the outside edge theres no need for it if the seal and the hub is in good condition, if either are damaged you can use a smear of ATV blue gasket paste or form-a-gasket to seal it up.
