Hiya All,
Is there a special (or even favourite) tool for getting the fill plugs out of the GBox and transfer case? Was just using a open ended spanner yesterday and that bastard did not want to budge - put a piece of pipe over the end for extra leverage, but it looked more likely that I was going to round off the plug rather than loosen anything.
Should I just soak it in anti-seize spray or something? Or maybe just use a wide shifter to spread the load accross the face a bit more?

ring spanner and if they have been overtightened and loctited in you'll need to hammer on a socket.

yep, its a case of finding the one that fits tightest and then using that...
the worst case scenario is having to drill it and tap it out....
the hardest one is when you dont have the good tools handy and are resorting to hammering on a 6 point impact socket.

If it is a 1/2" square - I can't remember if the gearbox is, the best is a 1/2" extension bar with a pipe wrench.
But the best solution is to not overtighten it in the first place.

If it does round off you could weld an old breaker bar to it.
The heat might free it up, you will have something solid to pull on at least.
Replace it once its out obviously..
Hard to see how its that tight though, I thought it would of stripped out before becoming stuck like that.

Thanks for all the tips guys - will take her for a decent cruise this weekend to warm up the box, then have a crack at all those solutions...I'm sure I'll get it out eventually.
No idea how it would've gotten so tight, but then I get the feeling it has been a looooooong time since the gearbox has even been thought about. I only just got her recently and let's just say that maintenance wasn't top of mind for the previous owner.
